Can I store fuel in lantern tank?
Not recommended. Fuel can be stored up to approx. 5 months, before complete breakdown of the fuel. Basic rule: Leave tank empty, with "on/off" knob (#111) turned to the 12:00 position. Make sure air-bleeder valve (Part #13) on guage is open. SEE SAFETY TIPS
What does "500-CP" mean?
That's
the rating of these products,
which stands for "candle power". 500CP is a rating of Approx:400-watts.
If you were to place four (4)
"standard" dual mantled gas lanterns,
together, you would seam to get the
equivalent of our one-mantled
lantern!
What does "150-CP" mean?
That's the rating of these products, which stands for "candle power". 150CP is a rating of Approx:100-watts. If you were to place two (2) "standard" dual mantled gas lanterns, together, you would seam to get the equivalent of our one-mantled lantern!
What does "250-CP" mean?
That's the rating of these products, which stands for "candle power". 250CP is a rating of Approx:200-watts. If you were to place two (2) "standard" dual mantled gas lanterns, together, you would seam to get the equivalent of our one-mantled lantern!
Why would I Lower or raise the mixing tube (part 33 or 33-B)?
Lowering the mixing tube (part 33 or 33-B) will decrease the light output (approx. 150 to 200-wattts), and can possibly decrease/increase the fuel odor.
The higher the mixing tube… the more light output(400 to 550 watts)and can possible decrease/increase fuel odor. However, in reference to the older generation lamps/lanterns, adjusting the tube too high, will decrease the light output. See the second photo from the bottom of this link
How long to the mantles last?
A
mantle can, and has been known
to, last for over a year. One
of our technicians loves to night
fish in the Tampa Bay area, and
uses the lanterns almost every
weekend. He hasn't had to replace
a mantle in well over a year now.
It varies from mantle to mantle,
of course. BriteLyt Petromax makes
the best quality mantles on the
market today.
How do I tell the size of my lantern/lamp, if there is no tag on the frame?
150CP (HK)…..Size is approx. 11” (inches) tall.
250CP (HK)….Size is approx. 14” (inches) tall
350/500CP (HK)……Size is approx. 16” (inches) tall

DO I need to pre-burn a new mantle like other lanterns?
No see.... Video demonstration of new mantle and preheater
Do I have to buy a globe or start-up kit separately?
NO.
Your products comes with everything
you need to get started, so you
can immediately enjoy their use.(Just
add fuel)
What about parts? Will I have trouble getting these?
What if they change? BriteLyt is Backed by FOUR (4) U.S. Patents!!
The
parts for these products have
not changed in over 80 years,
and are available. BriteLyt
has designed parts (patented),

If I run out of kerosene, what do I have to do to
put in a different fuel?
Absolutely
nothing. The generator (vaporizer) system is not a throw-away,
and does not have any packing
in it that will cause it to stop
up or clog up. You can even mix
the fuels together. No problem!
(Example: The tank is low on
kerosene, but you don't have anymore
available NO PROBLEM! Just turn
the lantern off, and pour whatever
fuel you have on hand into the tank.
Been there done that.) See how easy
& convenient it is?
What Types of Fuels can I use in the BriteLyt?
Here are some variety of fuels a BriteLyt can use..kerosene, diesel, gasoline, White Gas,Biodiesel, mineral spirits, paint thinner, charcoal lighter fluid, lamp oils,Coleman fuel,Jp8,Jp5,all Jp fuels,Alcohol, and more (etc any thing that can burn).Nothing to change with jets when using any fuel, if using alcohol we have a kit ,if you mix the alcohol(50 50)with any fuel you will not need the kit.
How long will the lanterns & stoves operate?
The 500CP lanterns & stoves have approx.
one (1) quart tank capacity. The lanterns usually run anywhere
from 8-14 hours. The stoves have
been known to operate for as long
as 4-6 hours, without lowering
the heat. (These figures are based
on field testing at running at
highest setting.)
150CP lanterns (1) pint
tank capacity. The 150CP runs anywhere from 8-20 hours Approx:
How much pressure can I put into the lantern?
Apply pressure, as suggested. The gauge reads in “atmospheres” (ex. #1 on gauge refers to 1 atmosphere, Approx: 12 to 14 pounds). You can apply pressure past the red mark (You can pressurize up to the #3, depending upon how much light output you require). When using EZ-Pump: Using a high-powered compressor, or large CO2 systems, is not recommended. Video Demonstration of Proper Lantern Pumping, Gauge Reading, & Lighting of Preheater
Who uses these things?
BriteLyt products are used all
over the world. These products
were sometimes the main heating/cooking
resource of the German & American
armies during the war. They are
still used by various Government
agencies, as well as the NATO
forces. They are made to withstand
extreme conditions, altitude and
temperature changes from sub-zero
temperatures to equatorial. Also used
during "Operation Desert Storm", "Iraqi Freedom" and "SF in Afghanistan" used by the US Military!!!. Well-known wildlife photographers use these
products, due to the fact that
they don't have to carry large
containers of fuel around. The Amish communities use these products
because of their durability, cost-efficiency,
versatility, and long-lasting
running time. BriteLyt Multi-fuel
lanterns were used in such movies
as "The Legend of Bagger Vance"
and "The In Crowd" See our legendary
lanterns at such exhibits as "Expedition EVEREST " at Disneyworld theme parks
("Expedition EVEREST " Florida). Disney World Ted Nugent

When ordering parts or glass for my lantern how do I tell the size that I need?
Look on the frame part #121 and look for 500CP or it may say 500HK all should have ether 150CP or HK, 250CP or HK or 200HK, or 350CP or HK.Replacement Parts, Glass and mantles. Lantern parts Breakdown Parts Price list for all size CP
Also if the tag is not there or you can not read it then the 150CP is about 11” high, 250CP about 14” high and 350/500CP about 16” high. You can call us or email for help!
Is the Flame Tube (Preheater part # 220) in the wrong direction?
NO see: Video Demonstration - FLAME TUBE in wrong place (How to Put #33-B & #3-SS together)
What is the function of the Preheater?
The preheater preheats the vaporizer tube (#152) so that when the on and off knob is turned to 6:00 O'clock on(#111) the mantle will light up, it cuts the starting time down by vaporizing the fuel.(see photo below).

Also See Our Television Commercial to see pre-heater flame
Video demonstration of flame up
What if I do not have a preheater (part #226) on my lantern?
Go to this page for step by step instructions!
What Circumstance comes up for you to lower your mixing tube part #33.
Can be lowered for less light output as from 550 watts to 150 to 200 watts the closer to the #50 the lower the light out put. But with oil fuels can cause the lantern to have a red flame (Tube to low to long). Alcohol fuels are not the same needs to be low, if to high lantern mantle will go out not work look as if you ran out of fuel, to low will be red and seem to be low pressure mantle not real bright. See 33-B starting point
Will the BriteLyt lantern use BioDiesel?
YES!!!
PREHEATING BIODIESEL TIP: If using preheating cup (#35), fill cup at least 6 - 10 times. If using preheater, it's best to use the EZ-Pump adaptor. Allow preheating time approx. 3 - 4 mins. (with an average outdoor temp of 75-degrees).BEST using BOTH Above see: Video demonstration of BioDiesel in Lantern

Tips: FLAME-UPS - Check part # 33, and make sure that it is adjusted to a high level. It can loosen up and drop down too close to the # 50. (see photo of adjustment above.)
If your lantern has be used some also check the #152 and #101 for carbon build up clean as needed See this page Clean parts #101 and #152.
Check # 50 and make sure that it's not loose. It can be a tad bit loose, (or you can turn with your fingers or not). Tighten it up with a crescent wrench or with part # 66, and you'll hear a squeak sound, when tightened. ! Also add Muffler Mender to the threads , most all auto parts stores carry Muffler mender !! See this page for repair with Muffler mender !!

Both of the problems above can cause a minor flame-up. So....Just check these out, and you should be good to go!!!
EACH TIME YOU FILL THE LANTERN (or STOVE) WITH FUEL
check the following:
1. MANTLE: Make sure there are no holes in the mantle. Replace, if there seems to be a problem with the mantle..
2. GLASS: Make sure the glass is not broken, or needs to be cleaned off.
3. PARTS #33 and #50: Make sure these parts are tight, and that the Part #33 is raised high and not loose.
4. CHECK FOR LEAKS: Part #10 (pump valve), preheater (#229), #149 (gas cap) and part #50 (where the needle, Part #68, comes out). You will need to pressurize the tank to look for leaks.
